An Asian fusion hotspot in De Pijp

In Amsterdam’s lively De Pijp district, Blue Dragon Amsterdam has become one of the area’s most talked-about dining spots. Sitting at Marie Heinekenplein 4, among a cluster of popular eateries, Blue Dragon brings Asian fusion cuisine and cocktails together in one place, open every Tuesday through Sunday.

Since opening its doors, Blue Dragon has offered guests a choice between à la carte and an all-you-can-eat concept, in a modern, intimate interior that channels the feel of a metropolitan Asian lounge. It is a setting built for both casual diners and serious food lovers, and behind that easy atmosphere sits an operation designed to run smoothly from the first order to the last.

More than a hundred dishes to explore

Blue Dragon’s menu spans over a hundred dishes inspired by Japanese, Chinese and Korean cuisine. Guests can move from sushi and dim sum to fusion specialities that push the boundaries of traditional Asian cooking, exploring a wide range of flavours in a single visit.

The all-you-can-eat concept adds a rhythm of its own: diners choose three dishes per round over two hours, with short intervals between rounds. It is a dynamic, social way to eat, and it keeps the kitchen and floor moving at a steady pace throughout the evening.

Why all-you-can-eat needs smart technology

A menu this large, served all-you-can-eat, puts real demands on an operation. Guests order round after round, tables move at different speeds, and every order has to reach the kitchen quickly and accurately for the format to work. As a new venture, Blue Dragon set out to get that right from day one.

That is where Eatcard came in. Blue Dragon runs on the full Eatcard platform, which helped design and optimise the workflow around the concept. As restaurant manager Paul Man put it during our conversation with him: “It’s efficient ordering, more efficient execution, a win-win situation.”

Blue Dragon

QR ordering that puts guests in control

At Blue Dragon, guests order directly from their table using QR table ordering. For an all-you-can-eat concept with rounds and short intervals, that is exactly what the format needs. Guests browse the full menu, choose their dishes and send each round through themselves, which cuts wait times and keeps the meal flowing at their own pace.

It also frees up staff. Instead of taking every order by hand, the team can focus on service, and orders arrive without the back-and-forth that slows a busy restaurant down.

Blue Dragon Eatcard Waiter

Handhelds that keep the floor moving

Alongside QR ordering, the team works with the Eatcard Waiter handheld to take and manage orders on the move. Together, these tools let staff work faster and with less manual effort, all connected to the same system.

For Paul, the clarity of the setup is what stands out. “The system is very clear and intuitive,” he says. “It requires minimal explanation for both staff and guests. The more you use it, the more features you discover.” That ease of use matters most when the restaurant is full and every second counts.

One platform behind the experience

What makes Blue Dragon work is the way everything connects. POS, QR ordering and the Eatcard Waiter run on a single platform, so orders flow smoothly from the table to the kitchen without anything falling between the cracks. The result is service that stays fast and accurate even at the busiest moments, which is exactly what an all-you-can-eat concept depends on.

For Paul, the difference is clear. Staff can focus on service with a smile, while guests enjoy a smooth, enjoyable experience from start to finish. “Try it out in a busy restaurant,” he concludes, “and you’ll see, it really makes your life easier.”
